When we think of the word "trends", we don't necessarily think "timeless" in the same category. Trending means "currently popular or widely discussed online, especially on social media" and the word timeless means "not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion", According to Oxford Languages Dictionary.
So why am I talking about timeless jewelry trends in 2023? I am happy to say that there are some trends this year that include some timeless designs and I am here for it!
In doing some internet research we are already seeing some trending styles like,
big bold earrings and cuff bracelets, colorful precious and semi-precious stones, chunky mixed metal necklaces, pinky rings, personalized jewelry, and hearts.
In searching further I was pleasantly surprised to see some trends popping up, that to me, seemed more timeless in nature and that was right up my alley, not only in my own personal jewelry taste, but in my own timeless designs.
Dale Arden Chong of Elle Magazine wrote an online article, https://www.elle.com/fashion/trend-reports/a42254385/2023-jewelry-trends/, 8 Jewelry Trends That Will Be Everywhere in 2023.
In this article she talks about "mermaidcore", a trending topic on TikToc that consists of dreamy oceanic motifs in jewelry. I love this idea and have plans for a future line this year with all those goodies.
She mentions a lot of of the same trends I listed earlier, but with some additional insight that got me super excited. She mentions, symbolic insects and creatures, contemporary relic designs that feels as if they jumped right out from another era, and found object jewelry. (insert squeal). Found object jewelry are pieces that were found or foraged from meaningful places. At this point, I'm wondering if they have been reading my mind.
I usually try and steer clear of anything trending. Not because it's a bad thing, but I like the idea of creating jewelry that is timeless. Jewelry that isn't effected by the passing of time or the ever changing world of fashion and their opinions.
However, this year it seems as though the universe has aligned the fashion worlds senses with mine (giggle) and I'm gong to roll with it.
This year be on the look out for my timeless trending, but still one-of-a kind designs.
